Linus Tech Tips, a renowned YouTube channel with over 15 million followers, recently faced a cyber attack from crypto scammers. The attackers infiltrated the account, ran Bitcoin ads, and even terminated the channel, losing nearly a decade’s worth of videos. Other channels under the Linus Media Group, such as Techquicke and TechLinked, were also affected.
The cybercriminals behind the hack used the Linus Tech Tips platform for several live broadcasts about Elon Musk and Bitcoin. In addition, they made some private videos public, compromising the channel’s content. It remains unclear whether YouTube staff or the hackers themselves carried out the channel termination.

Linus Sebastian, the man behind Linus Tech Tips, had fortunately backed up all his videos using a “Vault” backup system. A strong advocate of the 3-2-1 data storage method, he had multiple devices (including one offsite) safeguarding his content. Following the successful recovery of the channel, Sebastian has been able to restore the lost videos.
